The breadth of the Centre’s research interests are reflected in the variety of events that have taken place this term. These include a Roundtable marking the International Day Against Transphobia and Biphobia and the 2025 McWilliams Probation Lecture. The Research and Practice in Conversation (RaPiC) network continues to be active – this network brings together practitioners, managers and academics working in the area of youth justice and is now a collaboration between the Justice and Society Research Centre and colleagues from the Universities of Nottingham and Warwick. Recent webinars have explored the concept of ‘child first’ – this term taking the topic of high risk panels and youth justice (with contributions from Dr Samantha Burns, Dr Sean Creaney and Michael O’Connor).
Research students and staff have explored and debated ethical aspects of methodology in a series of discussions prompted by reading and practical experience. We have also been happy to celebrate the successful completion of research projects and PhDs – on topics including children of prisoners and women’s experiences with punishment, care and motherhood.
